Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced the early disbursement of salaries and pensions to all provincial government employees ahead of the Eidul Adha holidays.

According to a notification issued by the KP Finance Department, payments will be made by May 30 to ensure employees receive their dues before the possible Eid holidays. The department cited that June 1 falls on a Sunday — a non-working day — prompting the decision for early disbursement.

All provincial departments and institutions have been directed to ensure timely payments within the current working month.

The announcement comes as the country awaits confirmation of Eidul Adha’s date, which hinges on the sighting of the Zul-Hijjah moon. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has scheduled a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on May 27 in Islamabad.

The session will be chaired by committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad and will determine the start of Zul-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also convene the same day at their respective provincial headquarters to collect crescent sighting testimonies.

“If the moon is sighted on May 27, Eidul Adha will fall on June 6. If not, the festival will be observed on June 7,” a spokesperson for the ministry stated.

However, an astronomer has predicted that the moon is more likely to be visible on May 28, suggesting that Eidul Adha may be celebrated on June 7 across most parts of the country.
