News Desk
Peshawar: In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted snow and rain over the hills from January 7 to 9.
A westerly wave is predicted to approach north Baluchistan on January 6 (evening/night) and grip the majority of the province during the weekend(January 7 and 8), possibly lasting into Monday(January 9), according to a dispatch from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) sent to all deputy commissioners on Friday.
Under the influence of emerging weather system, rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Chitral, Lower & Upper Dir, Malakand, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Mansehra, and Abbottabad districts.
Similarly, light to moderate rain with light snowfall over the hills is also expected in Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Hangu, Karak, Kohat, Bannu, LakkiMarwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, North and South Waziristan districts.
With the likelihood that fog will dissipate over the expected period and a drop in daytime temperatures of between 05 and 07 C during the wet spell, the rain will prove advantageous for standing crops, especially in Barani districts.
Snowfall, however, has the potential to impede regular vehicular movement in mountainous or hilly places, while rain has the potential to cause landslides in some particularly weak portions of upper districts.
