Rawalpindi: Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam expressed determination to regain his batting form following his valiant 94-run innings that could not prevent his team’s loss against Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) X.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Azam shared insights on his recent performances and the challenges faced. “It’s rarely due to good deliveries that I get out. Most of the time, it’s my own mistakes,” he said candidly.

Reflecting on his approach to finding rhythm, the top-order batsman explained, “Sometimes, scoring just 20–40 runs can help you find your rhythm. Whether it’s a new or old approach, my aim is to score runs.”

Azam also commented on the tactical aspects of the game, noting, “When you bowl first, you assess the pitch better. It is an art to understand the behaviour of the pitch as well.”

He welcomed the return of foreign players to the PSL, acknowledging the short break in the tournament caused by tensions between Pakistan and India. “There is no doubt that there was a short break in PSL X, but it is commendable to see foreign players returning for the remaining matches,” he said.

The captain clarified that no discussions have taken place with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selectors about his role in upcoming matches. “It doesn’t necessarily mean that I will always open the batting for the team in T20 internationals,” he added.

Azam also highlighted the team’s positive morale during the ongoing league, appreciating moments like the fireworks display at Pindi Cricket Stadium. He further praised his teammates for acknowledging the Pakistan Armed Forces for their efforts in defending the country.

Despite the recent loss, Babar Azam remains focused on making efforts to regain his peak form and lead Peshawar Zalmi to success in the remaining PSL matches.
