PMD Forecasts 3 More Days of Extreme Heat Across Pakistan
News Desk
Lahore/Karachi: A severe heatwave continues to grip large swathes of Pakistan, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning of extreme temperatures over the next two to three days across the plains, including the provincial capital Lahore and most parts of Sindh.
According to the PMD, daytime temperatures in central and upper parts of Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to remain 5°C to 7°C above normal seasonal averages. Southern regions—Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan—are likely to experience temperatures 4°C to 6°C above normal.
In Lahore and other major cities, the scorching heat prevailed throughout Sunday, with hot and dry weather dominating most regions of the country. The PMD has forecast similar conditions for Monday, warning of extreme heat in the plains and dry weather across most areas.
However, isolated showers, gusty winds, and thunderstorms—possibly accompanied by hail—are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Upper Punjab, and the Potohar region during the evening or night hours.
Meanwhile in Karachi, the PMD also predicted very hot and dry conditions for most districts of Sindh over the next 24 hours. Gusty winds are likely during the afternoon, adding to the discomfort caused by soaring temperatures.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and take precautionary measures to protect themselves from heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.
