Islamabad/New DelhI: In a significant move to ease tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India held long-awaited contact on Monday, following a brief postponement earlier in the day, Indian media reported.

The high-level military communication, initially scheduled for 11am, was delayed without any official explanation but reportedly took place later in the evening.

The talks are part of a routine military-to-military channel of communication maintained under the ceasefire understanding between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

According to Indian media outlets, Pakistan Army’s DGMO engaged with his Indian counterpart, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, as part of renewed efforts to stabilize the fragile ceasefire agreement along the volatile LoC.

The interaction occurred shortly after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting to assess the evolving border situation.

This latest development comes on the heels of a reaffirmation by Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Major General Ahmed Sharif, who stated in a recent press conference that Pakistan remains committed to military-level dialogue with India.

He emphasized the importance of restraint, dialogue, and continued communication to avoid escalation and maintain regional stability.

The hotline communication between the two militaries has also been reactivated to address any potential incidents swiftly and prevent misunderstandings. The move follows days of backchannel coordination and international concern over escalating tensions.

While the ceasefire, brokered after a series of military-level exchanges, continues to hold as of Monday noon, observers warn that the situation remains delicate.

The international community is closely watching developments, urging both nations to pursue sustained diplomatic engagement and avoid actions that could reignite conflict.

This DGMO-level contact marks a critical step towards de-escalation amid growing regional and global calls for dialogue and restraint.
