Islamabad: The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs was hacked late last night. A spokesperson for the ministry confirmed the security breach, clarifying that any posts made during the incident are not affiliated with the ministry.

The spokesperson stated that the relevant authorities have been notified, and efforts are ongoing to recover the account. The public has been advised to disregard any recent posts from the compromised account.

In response, Federal Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, also confirmed the breach via her official X account. She expressed concern over the security lapse and reassured the public that steps are being taken to address the situation.

This incident comes after the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (PakCERT) issued an advisory warning government institutions of potential cyberattacks, particularly in light of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. The advisory had urged enhanced digital security measures to prevent such breaches.

Authorities have launched a full investigation, and cybersecurity teams are actively working to secure the account and prevent any future incidents.
