Islamabad: In response to escalating cross-border tensions, Islamabad’s district administration has ramped up emergency preparedness measures, holding a high-level meeting on Wednesday to finalize a coordinated response plan in the event of a crisis.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Irfan Nawaz Memon, brought together top officials from health, emergency, law enforcement, and utility departments to review the city’s readiness. A spokesperson for the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration said the session aimed to ensure all departments are fully prepared to respond to any potential emergency.

Participants included representatives from public and private hospitals, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and the Fire Brigade. Senior officers from Islamabad Police, the Special Branch, and other law enforcement agencies also attended, along with utility service providers such as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).

Central to the meeting was the review of the city’s “War Book” — a strategic manual detailing departmental responsibilities during emergency situations. All departments were instructed to adhere strictly to the protocols outlined in the manual and remain on high alert.

DC Memon underscored the importance of strong inter-departmental coordination and announced the development of a joint response mechanism to streamline crisis management. He directed all institutions to maintain open lines of communication and ensure readiness on all fronts.

Hospitals across Islamabad have been placed on high alert. Medical staff and emergency units have been instructed to secure essential medical supplies and ensure the availability of standby personnel.

To monitor the evolving situation, a 24/7 Command and Control Center has been established in the capital. The center will act as the central hub for emergency communications and decision-making.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and stay informed. The ICT administration has provided three dedicated phone lines for citizens to contact the control center in case of an emergency.

This proactive strategy reflects Islamabad’s commitment to safeguarding public safety amid heightened regional tensions. Authorities pledged to keep the public regularly updated and to maintain close coordination among all relevant departments.
