Severe Weather Warning Issued for Murree, Galyat

Islamabad: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a landslide warning for Murree and Galyat due to expected heavy rainfall and strong storms, urging local authorities and tourists to exercise caution and take timely precautions.

According to media reports, the PDMA alert follows weather forecasts predicting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and a high chance of lightning strikes until May 4. The weather in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas remains partly cloudy, with intermittent showers, gusty winds, and thunder.

A PDMA Punjab spokesperson, speaking to a private news channel, advised tourists planning visits to Murree to stay informed about weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during unstable weather conditions. He emphasized strict adherence to safety protocols and local authority guidelines for a secure travel experience.

Residents and visitors have been urged to remain indoors during severe weather, steer clear of open or vulnerable areas, and follow official advisories. In case of an emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 for assistance or to report incidents.

The PDMA has also recommended community participation in disaster preparedness programs and strict compliance with emergency response plans to minimize risks and enhance safety.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rainfall in Karachi beginning May 5, offering a welcome change in weather for the southern metropolis.
