PM Shehbaz Urges US to Pressure India Over Pahalgam Attack

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized Pakistan’s firm stance on the recent Pahalgam attack, during a telephone conversation with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday.
The premier highlighted the need for international intervention to hold India accountable for its provocative actions and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working collaboratively with the US across various sectors.
PM Shehbaz strongly condemned all forms of terrorism and emphasized the immense sacrifices Pakistan has made in the fight against extremism, pointing out that the country has lost over 90,000 innocent lives in this battle. He also highlighted the financial toll of over $152 million in the war on terror, underlining the ongoing cost of terrorism on Pakistan’s national security.
Regarding the Pahalgam incident, PM Shehbaz dismissed India’s narrative and called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the attack. He urged the US to apply pressure on India to abandon its provocative behavior and instead adopt a more responsible approach toward the region.

The Prime Minister further criticized India’s attitude towards Pakistan, stating that it is “deplorable” that India continues its aggressive stance despite ongoing regional challenges. He reiterated that the only path to lasting peace in South Asia lies in addressing the Kashmir issue through peaceful dialogue.
In response, Marco Rubio expressed his appreciation for the detailed conversation with the Prime Minister and stressed the importance of both Pakistan and the United States collaborating for peace and stability in the region. Rubio also urged all parties involved to pursue a path of cooperation and dialogue, reflecting a shared commitment to regional peace and security.
PM Shehbaz concluded by highlighting the strong historical partnership between Pakistan and the US over the past seven decades and emphasized the potential for strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in addressing shared challenges in South Asia.
