Islamabad: Several regions across Sindh remained gripped by an intense heatwave on Tuesday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning that the hot and humid conditions are expected to persist over the coming days.

According to the PMD, temperatures in Karachi and other parts of the province are projected to stay unusually high. Intermittent strong winds may blow today and tomorrow, likely adding to the discomfort.

A new westerly weather system is forecast to enter the northern parts of the country on May 1. This system is expected to affect weather patterns through May 5 and may bring a spell of rain to some areas.

The PMD noted that under the influence of this system, the upper regions of the country could see rainfall. Parts of Sindh may also receive light to moderate rain between May 2 and 3.

Previously, the PMD had already issued a heatwave alert, warning that a high-pressure system building over much of the country would drive temperatures significantly above seasonal norms.

Daytime temperatures in Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan are forecast to remain 5–7°C above normal until at least May 1. In central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures will likely stay 4–6°C above normal.

A slight respite is anticipated with the arrival of the new weather system around April 30, which could bring rain, wind, and thunderstorms to areas including AJK, Islamabad, the Potohar region, northeast Punjab, upper KP, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PMD has urged the public to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours and to stay well-hydrated, especially vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.

Farmers have also been advised to plan their wheat harvesting schedules accordingly and take measures to safeguard their livestock in light of the prevailing and upcoming weather conditions.
