Islamabad: The Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad has strongly rejected recent media reports alleging the disappearance of seized vehicles, describing the claims as “baseless and misleading.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, the department clarified that all impounded vehicles were lawfully processed. It stated that over 270 vehicles had been handed over to either the police or their rightful owners, while 14 smuggled vehicles were transferred to the Customs authorities.
Despite facing staff shortages, the department emphasized its strong revenue performance, reporting collections exceeding Rs. 15 billion during the current fiscal year, all of which have been duly deposited into the national treasury.
“The field staff has diligently impounded 350 vehicles with tampered chassis numbers, strictly following legal protocols,” the statement noted.
It further explained that untraceable vehicles were allocated to government offices, including the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Capital Development Authority (CDA), and the Agriculture Department, for official use under existing seizure regulations, with complete documentation in place.
The department also highlighted new public service initiatives, such as doorstep tax collection and online payment options, aimed at enhancing transparency and citizen convenience.
“These allegations are an attempt to undermine the department’s performance,” the statement asserted, urging media outlets to verify information before publication.
Reaffirming its commitment to lawful and accountable operations, the department pledged to continue serving the public with transparency and integrity.
