No Polio Cases Reported Since February 10: PM Informed

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed on Thursday that, due to the sustained nationwide anti-polio campaigns, Pakistan has not reported a single case of polio since February 10, 2025.
Chairing a review meeting on polio eradication, the Prime Minister praised the efforts of government institutions, international organizations, and partners working together to make Pakistan polio-free. He commended the dedication of all those involved in the campaign and emphasized the importance of continuing the momentum.
The Prime Minister directed relevant authorities to ensure widespread awareness and community mobilization for the upcoming anti-polio campaign. He stressed that every child under the age of five must be vaccinated during the campaign, which will begin on April 21.
He also highlighted the importance of integrating routine immunization alongside the anti-polio campaign to protect against other diseases.
“Polio workers are on the frontlines of this fight, and despite the challenges, their efforts are truly commendable. The entire nation, including myself, is proud of their hard work,” the Prime Minister said.
The meeting also provided details about the upcoming anti-polio campaign, which will run from April 21 to April 27, targeting 4.5 million children. A total of 415,000 polio workers will participate in this nationwide initiative. Additionally, the Prime Minister instructed that third-party validation of the campaign be conducted from April 28 to April 30.
The cold chain system used for the vaccines is being closely monitored through a digital tracking system to ensure proper storage and transportation.
The meeting was attended by Minister for National Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Polio Ayesha Raza Farooq, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal, Chief Secretaries from all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, as well as representatives from international partners and senior officials.
