In a Breakthrough Development, Pakistan’s First 5G ‘Innovation Lab’ Set up at NUST

Islamabad: The country’s first 5G Innovation Labis officially inaugurated at Pakistan’s National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST). The strategic relationship between NUST and Jazz, Pakistan’s top digital operator, has led to this momentous accomplishment.
By leveraging its high bandwidth, low latency and advanced security, the 5G Innovation Lab will help researchers to work on potential use cases for 5G in the fields of artificial intelligence, augmented/virtual reality and cloud-edge computing possessing applications in education, healthcare, industry 4.0, agriculture, security, disaster management, entertainment, etc.
Congratulating NUST and Jazz, Secretary IT Mohsin Mushtaq said, “While acting as a conduit for the interaction of technologies like artificial intelligence/machine learning, internet of things, and cybersecurity; this lab will play a crucial role in helping us develop an ecosystem to study 5G-enabled application cases in Agritech, EdTech, and other sectors.”
VEON Group Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Kaan Terzioglu stated, “While providing 4G to everyone is our first priority, we also need to consider the communications of the future, where 5G will play a significant role. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is something Pakistan has to embrace.”
He expressed his gratitude to NUST for hosting the technology “because it will usher in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim informed that the 5G Innovation Lab will aid researchers, businesspeople, and academics in understanding the potential, worth, and use of 5G while driving the execution of use cases for the growth of the co-innovation ecosystem.
NUST Pro-Rector Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) Dr Rizwan Riaz stated, “We have made a significant step in accelerating innovation and research today. By bringing together visionary entrepreneurs, business titans, technical experts, and investors for common purposes of development and growth, the 5G Innovation Lab would create and foster an ecosystem that is focused on collaboration and development and uses cutting-edge technology.”
