Pakistan’s PTA Refuses X Service Reinstatement
News Desk
Islamabad: The immediate restoration of social media platform X in Pakistan appears unlikely as negotiations between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the platform’s foreign management have not yielded a resolution.
Sources indicate that the PTA has decided not to reinstate the service on its own without explicit directives from the government or the courts.
PTA officials confirmed to Samaa TV that, despite multiple exchanges of communication, X has refused to register in Pakistan or adhere to local laws. The regulatory authority has stated that the platform’s policies are in conflict with Pakistani regulations, which has hindered a resolution.
PTA also explained that X was blocked on February 17, 2024, following directives from the Ministry of Interior due to concerns over illegal online content. Despite repeated requests to remove or block such content, X has neither complied nor formally appealed for the restoration of its service.
Furthermore, PTA clarified that the Ministry of Interior has not issued any instructions for the reinstatement of X, adding to the uncertainty about when, or if, the platform will be accessible again in Pakistan.
