FJWU Celebrates Women with Disabilities

Rawalpindi: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) reaffirmed its commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowerment by organizing a seminar titled “Sensitivity and Inclusivity of Women with Disabilities in a Rights-Based Development Process” in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

The event was arranged by the FJWU Student Accessibility Committee in collaboration with the Women Development Center.

Dr Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of FJWU, graced the occasion, emphasizing the necessity of ensuring equal opportunities and accessibility for women with disabilities in all spheres of life. She reiterated FJWU’s dedication to creating an inclusive academic and social environment that upholds the rights of all individuals.

Asim Zafar, CEO of SAAYA Association underscored the significance of accessibility, empowerment, and policy-making to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities.

Additionally, six remarkable women with disabilities shared their inspiring success stories, shedding light on their struggles, determination, and achievements. Their narratives highlighted the pressing need for inclusivity in education, employment, and social spaces, reinforcing the importance of breaking barriers for women with disabilities.

Dr Sarwet Rasul, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, stressed the importance of redefining inclusivity, advocating for comprehensive policies that ensure meaningful participation and empowerment of women with disabilities across all sectors.

Event organizer Dr Sajida Naz expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all esteemed guests, participants, and collaborators for their valuable contributions in making the seminar a success. The event concluded with an interactive discussion, where students and faculty members shared perspectives and suggestions on fostering a more inclusive academic and professional environment for women with disabilities.
