PMD Forecasts Mostly Dry Weather, Isolated Rain, Snowfall

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted mostly dry and partly cloudy weather across the country on Friday.
However, isolated rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hills are expected in Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, northeast Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the day.
Additionally, light to moderate fog may develop in some plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and central/southern Punjab.
Thursday’s Recorded Rainfall and Snowfall
Several regions experienced significant rainfall and snowfall on Thursday, affecting daily life and travel. Significant rainfall and snowfall were reported in several areas, disrupting normal life.
Various regions of Pakistan, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, are experiencing intermittent rainfall for the third consecutive day. The highest recorded rainfall in the capital was 8mm in Saidpur. The PMD has forecast that the ongoing wet spell will persist until March 1.
The persistent rain has disrupted the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, causing multiple interruptions.
Northern Areas Face Heavy Snowfall
A strong westerly system has brought heavy rain and snowfall to northern Pakistan, leading to road closures and hazardous travel conditions.
The PMD has issued warnings for Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli, where heavy precipitation may result in slippery roads and potential landslides.
Authorities have urged tourists to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in areas affected by snowfall and heavy rain.
Rain Brings Chilly Weather, Benefits Crops
Light to moderate rain continues across Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Gujrat, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Narowal. Some regions have also experienced hailstorms. Farmers are optimistic about the positive impact of the rain on wheat and other crops.
Meanwhile, the chilly weather has boosted the demand for hot snacks, with people flocking to stalls selling pakoras and other delicacies.
Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions and ensure proper drainage in fields to prevent waterlogging.
KP& Balochistan Witness Continuous Rain, Snowfall
Continuous rainfall, accompanied by snowfall in mountainous areas, has been reported in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Malakand. Similarly, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, and Loralai in Balochistan are also experiencing rain and snowfall, intensifying the cold wave.
Murree & Galiyat: Snowfall Enhances Scenic Beauty
Murree and Galiyat are witnessing heavy rain and light snowfall, adding to the region’s winter charm. Water levels in streams and rivers have risen, while tourists are enjoying the scenic views. The PMD predicts that the rain and snowfall will continue for the next two days.
Sindh: Mostly Dry Weather Prevails
Unlike other regions, most districts in Sindh remain dry, with no significant rainfall reported.
