Islamabad: Health experts have raised serious concerns over the excessive use of mobile phones among children, warning of its detrimental effects on physical and mental health.
With screen time reaching alarming levels, parents are struggling to control their children’s smartphone addiction, leading to sleep deprivation, eye strain, decreased attention spans, and declining academic performance.
A concerned mother, Sabrena, shared her distress over her 10-year-old child’s screen addiction, stating that it has severely impacted their mood, grades, and overall well-being. “They are constantly glued to their phone, even during meals or family time, and I feel helpless in setting limits,” she said.
Health experts warn that excessive mobile use can lead to obesity, reduced physical activity, and impaired cognitive development. Pediatrician Dr. Saira Jabeen stressed the need for a balanced lifestyle, advising parents to limit screen time to 1-2 hours daily and encourage outdoor activities to promote social interaction and teamwork.
Despite these warnings, many parents remain unaware of the long-term consequences of unchecked screen time. Experts urge immediate intervention through strict monitoring, responsible digital boundaries, and parental control measures to protect children’s health and well-being.
With rising cases of mobile addiction among children, the question remains: Will parents and educators take urgent steps, or will an entire generation suffer the consequences of unchecked screen exposure?
