Polio Eradication Efforts
Polio remains a highly infectious disease that causes paralysis and has no cure. Health experts emphasize that multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine (OPV) and completing the routine vaccination schedule are essential to ensuring immunity in children under five.
The Pakistan Polio Program continues its nationwide efforts to eradicate the virus by conducting multiple mass vaccination drives each year. Additionally, the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) provides free vaccines against 12 childhood diseases at health facilities.
First Polio Campaign of 2025 Concludes
The first nationwide polio campaign of 2025 was successfully conducted from February 3 to 9, achieving a 99 percent coverage rate across the country. During the campaign, more than 45 million children received polio vaccines.
Health authorities urge parents to ensure that all children under five receive polio drops in every campaign to protect them from the crippling disease. Pakistan remains committed to eradicating polio through sustained vaccination efforts and public awareness initiatives.
