Islamabad: A seven-day anti-polio campaign was formally launched in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) on Monday to immunize children under the age of five against the virus.

The drive, which began on February 3 and will continue until February 9, aims to vaccinate 461,125 children across the Federal Capital.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, inaugurated the campaign by personally administering polio drops to children. Health officials and representatives were also present, underscoring the significance of the initiative.

To ensure maximum coverage, mobile vaccination teams will conduct door-to-door visits and reach out to schools. Assistant commissioners and health officials are actively monitoring the teams in the field.

DC Irfan Nawaz Memon urged citizens to support vaccination efforts, stressing that polio eradication is essential for securing the health and future of children.

Additionally, officials inspected vaccination teams in migrant settlements to ensure immunization efforts reach mobile populations.

The administration has appealed to all parents to ensure their children under five receive the polio vaccine, emphasizing that public cooperation is key to achieving a polio-free Pakistan.
