Lahore Tops Global Air Pollution Rankings with Hazardous AQI Levels
News Desk
Lahore: Lahore has once again been ranked the world’s most polluted city, with its Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching an alarming 553, placing it in the hazardous category, according to the latest air quality data.
The city’s persistent battle with deteriorating air quality poses severe risks to public health, with experts warning of increased cases of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases due to the high concentration of particulate matter.
In comparison, New Delhi, India’s capital, ranked second on the global pollution index, recorded an AQI of 425. Despite being a consistent contender for the top spot, Lahore’s pollution levels have now surpassed its regional rival.
Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, also faces a pollution crisis, ranking seventh globally with an AQI of 186. While not as extreme as Lahore or New Delhi, Karachi’s air quality remains a significant concern, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
The worsening air quality in both cities underscores the urgent need for effective environmental policies and mitigation strategies to protect public health and combat pollution.
