Lahore Traffic Police Given Power to Arrest Offenders

News Desk

Lahore: Lahore Traffic Police have been granted the authority to handcuff individuals involved in illegal parking and encroachments as part of a crackdown to address persistent traffic congestion in the city’s busy areas.

Over the first three days of enforcement, police arrested 500 individuals for violations related to unauthorized parking and illegal encroachments. The primary goal is to streamline traffic flow and ensure smooth movement throughout Lahore.

Officials stated that the operation aimed to remove obstacles and restore order in traffic-prone areas. The authorities are committed to continuing the crackdown to sustain improvements.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) DIG Athar Waheed, in his statement, explained that the new strategy replaced the previous method of repeatedly issuing fines. He emphasized that stricter enforcement would serve as a deterrent to violations and aid long-term traffic management reforms.

The initiative specifically targeted high-congestion areas, with the police swiftly taking action against offenders. The traffic police, in collaboration with various departments, affirmed their commitment to maintaining the momentum of the operation, clearing illegal encroachments, and regulating parking effectively.
