Experts Urge Early Screening for Ovarian Cancer as Cases Rise

News Desk

Islamabad: As ovarian cancer cases continue to rise in Pakistan, medical experts are emphasizing the importance of early screening and raising awareness about the disease, particularly among women.

Dr Khursheed Noorani, a senior gynecologist, warned that ovarian cancer is often diagnosed at a late stage, significantly lowering the chances of survival.

Dr Noorani highlighted the need to educate both women and healthcare providers on the subtle symptoms of ovarian cancer, which may include persistent bloating, abdominal pain, and difficulty eating.

He stressed that early diagnosis is crucial and that women, particularly those over 40 or with a family history of the disease, should be vigilant about these symptoms and seek medical attention promptly.

The increase in ovarian cancer cases in Pakistan has been linked to unhealthy lifestyles, including poor diet, lack of physical activity, and smoking. Dr. Noorani also noted that cultural and societal norms, which discourage women from seeking medical help until symptoms reach an advanced stage, are further contributing to the rise in cases.

Experts are calling on women to adopt healthier lifestyles and consult healthcare providers if they experience any persistent symptoms of ovarian cancer, stressing that early intervention can significantly improve outcomes.
