Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched an advanced geo-spatial technology initiative to tackle encroachment issues and unregulated urban growth in Islamabad.

A meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, attended by senior officials from planning, estate, and enforcement wings, reviewed the project’s progress.

The CDA’s latest geo-spatial survey, supported by satellite imagery from SUPARCO, has identified encroachments, building violations, and improper land use in key commercial areas of the city.

Randhawa emphasized the need for a unified planning strategy and continuous land monitoring through drones equipped with advanced technology. He stressed that a centralised approach is crucial to curbing encroachments and ensuring proper urban planning for Islamabad’s residents.

The real-time satellite imagery has proven vital in tracking land use changes and unauthorized developments. Randhawa highlighted the importance of strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with clear timelines for the survey process.

The CDA has also set up daily monitoring and reporting mechanisms, working in coordination with district administration for anti-encroachment operations.

Randhawa instructed that FIRs be filed against repeat offenders to prevent future violations and maintain encroachment-free public spaces.
