Sindh Faculty Demand Revocation of NOC Policy

Karachi: Public sector universities across Sindh observed a Black Day on Monday, in response to a call by the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA), Sindh Chapter, to protest recent government notifications that have sparked controversy in the academic community.
The new directives, which restrict universities from appointing faculty members on a permanent basis, have drawn strong opposition from university staff.
Additionally, the regulations mandate that faculty members must now obtain No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from universities and boards for foreign visits, rather than directly from the Vice Chancellors as previously practiced.
University associations across Sindh expressed solidarity in opposing these policies, which they argue undermine academic freedom and institutional autonomy. Faculty members and university staff took to the streets, demanding the government revoke these restrictions, which they believe violate the rights and dignity of educators.
“We deeply thank all university associations for their unwavering support and solidarity in raising a united voice against these unjust policies,” said a representative of FAPUASA. “Together, we stand firm for the rights and dignity of faculty members.”
The protest continues to gain momentum, with educational institutions vowing to intensify their efforts until the government addresses their concerns.
