Peshawar Zalmi Launches Pakistan’s First Women’s Cricket League in KP

Islamabad: Peshawar Zalmi, in collaboration with the Zalmi Foundation and Ufone 4G, has launched Pakistan’s first-ever Women’s Cricket League (ZWL) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Zalmi Women’s League is part of Peshawar Zalmi’s broader commitment to empowering youth and fostering an inclusive sports culture in the region. This initiative aims to promote gender equality and provide women with opportunities in sports, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality).
The Zalmi Foundation, known for its work in youth empowerment, education, and healthcare, is adding this league to its legacy of impactful social initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Javed Afridi, Chairman of Peshawar Zalmi and the Zalmi Foundation, highlighted the significance of this project in promoting female participation in sports.
Ufone 4G, a key partner, has been recognized for its efforts to support initiatives addressing socio-economic challenges and offering opportunities to deserving individuals.
The league will feature eight teams divided into two groups:
Group A: Peshawar Thunderbolt, DI Khan Royals, Kohat Titans, Mardan Mavericks
Group B: Peshawar All Stars, Bannu Renegades, Hazara Daffodils, Malakand Strikers
The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, culminating in a final match to determine the champion.
Previously, Peshawar Zalmi signed a memorandum of understanding with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, securing support for the league. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur pledged to provide necessary resources and facilities for its success.
The Zalmi Women’s League will be held from December 3 to December 7, 2024, at the Hayatabad Sports Complex in Peshawar.
