Lahore: Smog has blanketed much of Pakistan, with Lahore once again ranking as the most polluted city in the world.
The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a staggering 718, despite efforts such as mobile air quality monitoring stations and the designation of green lockdown zones to mitigate smog levels.
Multan followed closely with an AQI of 710, while other cities, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Peshawar, also reported alarmingly high pollution levels.
The Met Office forecasts rain in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar today, with thunderstorms expected in Bhakkar, Layyah, and DG Khan, which may bring some relief from the smog.
Heavy fog has also disrupted transportation, with several sections of the motorway closed for safety reasons. A Motorway police spokesperson advised travelers to use fog lights and prioritize daytime travel to ensure safety.
