Rizwan to Lead Pakistan as T20I Against Australia Begins Thursday

Islamabad: Following a historic ODI series win over Australia, Mohammad Rizwan is set to captain Pakistan’s T20I squad, becoming the 12th player to lead the team in this format.

The three-match T20I series will commence on November 14, with games scheduled in Brisbane, Sydney, and Hobart on November 16 and 18, respectively.

Six players, including Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Omair Bin Yousuf, Sahibzada Farhan, Sufiyan Moqim, and Usman Khan, joined the squad in Brisbane on November 11 after completing a five-day training camp in Karachi.

The last T20I encounter between Pakistan and Australia was a one-off match in Lahore in March 2022, where Australia emerged victorious.

Pakistan’s previous T20I series in Australia took place in November 2019, ending 2-0 in favor of the hosts after the opening match concluded without a result.

Australia’s T20I squad, led by Josh Inglis, includes Tim David and Nathan Ellis, with Josh Philippe stepping in for the injured Cooper Connolly.

Rizwan shared his optimism ahead of the series, highlighting the team’s confidence post-ODI series victory and emphasizing the importance of maintaining team morale.

 “We have outlined roles for each player and aim to deliver our best both in this series and in upcoming fixtures against Zimbabwe and South Africa,” he stated.
