Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a three-month electricity relief package aimed at providing significant cost savings to consumers across Pakistan during the winter season.

Speaking at an event marking Allama Iqbal’s birth anniversary, he outlined the plan, which offers relief rates of up to Rs26.7 per unit for domestic consumers, Rs15.5 for industrial users, and Rs22.71 for commercial consumers.

The package, set to take effect from December 2024 to February 2025, will provide savings for domestic users who exceed 200 units of consumption, reducing their cost by up to Rs26 per unit over the three-month period.

Similarly, industrial and commercial consumers will benefit from rate reductions, which aim to drive productivity, stimulate business growth, and promote exports.

Prime Minister Shehbaz explained that the relief package aligns with the government’s commitment to boost economic resilience, helping sectors like agriculture, industry, and commerce flourish.

He expressed gratitude to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for allowing the package and commended the collaborative effort of the cabinet and senior officials in bringing it to fruition.

During the event, which celebrated Allama Iqbal’s legacy, the prime minister urged the youth to aspire towards a prosperous Pakistan, inspired by Iqbal’s philosophy of courage, hard work, and self-confidence.

He also recited verses from Iqbal’s poetry, stressing the importance of leadership and integrity.

In addition to the relief package announcement, the prime minister noted positive economic developments, including a record $8 billion in remittances during the first quarter of the fiscal year and a drop in the inflation rate to 6.7%.

He voiced optimism that these indicators would contribute to increased investment, improved agriculture, and stronger economic growth.

The celebration featured performances by renowned singers and young artists reciting Iqbal’s poetry, culminating in a tribute to Iqbal’s contributions to inspiring resilience and unity among Pakistanis.

Federal cabinet members and other senior government officials were present at the event.
