Washington: Democrat Kamala Harris won California on Tuesday in the US presidential election, securing its 54 electoral votes, while Republican rival Donald Trump was projected to win in Idaho and Iowa, according to US networks.

Harris also claimed victory in the West Coast state of Oregon. Currently, Trump leads with 211 electoral votes, while Harris has 153.

The key battleground states, including Georgia and Pennsylvania, remain uncalled.

First Wins Spark Election Tension

White House rivals Kamala Harris and Donald Trump claimed early victories as polls closed in a historically tight and volatile presidential election.

Republican Trump secured strongholds, including Florida, while Democrat Harris won several eastern states, with no major surprises so far. Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina—crucial battlegrounds—also began counting votes.

Millions of Americans voted in an election with significant global implications, either making Harris the first female president or granting Trump a historic comeback with his “America First” agenda. The final outcome might emerge within hours or could take days.
