Islamabad: As the chilly winds of winter approach, a leading neurosurgeon has issued a stark warning about the health risks posed by the cold season.
In an exclusive interview with a private news channel, renowned neurosurgeon Dr Muhammad Rafay highlighted how cold weather can trigger serious health issues like high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes, which claim thousands of lives each year.
Dr Rafay urged citizens, especially the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, to adopt simple yet effective lifestyle changes to mitigate these risks. “Cold stress can be a silent but deadly trigger for cardiovascular complications,” he cautioned, emphasizing the importance of proactive health measures.
He advised individuals to prioritize a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, and to limit their intake of fast food and processed meals high in unhealthy fats, salt, and sugar.
“Obesity is a significant risk factor for stroke. By making these changes, we can significantly reduce our risk of serious health problems,” Dr Rafay said.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of recognizing the warning signs of a stroke—such as sudden weakness, confusion, and severe headaches.
“Staying vigilant can save lives,” he added, encouraging everyone to take proactive steps to protect their health as the cold season settles in.
