Los Angeles, United States: Freddie Freeman launched his second home run of the World Series, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-2 victory against the New York Yankees on Saturday, giving them a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Freeman’s powerful shot followed a two-run homer from Teoscar Hernandez, capping a decisive third inning that put the Dodgers ahead for good. The win came after Freeman’s sensational grand slam in Friday’s dramatic opener, which secured a thrilling victory in extra innings.

However, the Dodgers’ celebration was tempered by an injury scare involving Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani appeared to injure his left shoulder after a hard fall while attempting to steal second base in the seventh inning.

He remained on the ground for several minutes before being helped off the field. The severity of the injury has not yet been confirmed.

On the mound, Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a stellar performance, allowing just one hit over 6.1 innings against a formidable Yankees lineup. This victory sets the stage for Game 3 on Monday in New York, where the Dodgers will look to extend their lead.

Historically, teams that win the first two games of a best-of-seven postseason series have emerged victorious 77 times out of 92.

In contrast to Friday’s nail-biting finish, Saturday’s game showcased a more controlled Dodgers offense. Utility player Tommy Edman initiated the scoring in the bottom of the second with a towering 355-foot home run off Yankees starter Carlos Rodon, putting the Dodgers ahead 1-0.

The Yankees briefly equalized in the third inning with a solo homer from Juan Soto, but the Dodgers quickly regained the lead as Rodon struggled against their lineup.

After Ohtani and Miguel Rojas were retired, Mookie Betts ignited the rally with a hard-hit single to left field, setting the stage for Freeman’s subsequent heroics.

With momentum firmly on their side, the Dodgers aim to build on their success as they head to New York for the next game in this thrilling World Series matchup.
