Peshawar: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government is set to publish an advertisement soon for the recruitment of 17,000 teachers, according to Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, Faisal Khan Tarakai.
The announcement came during a meeting on Wednesday to review the province’s teacher recruitment policy. Senior officials, including Special Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Department Qaiser Alam, Director IT Salahuddin, and Additional Director Dr Iqbal, were also in attendance.
The recruitment drive aims to fill vacancies created by teacher promotions and retirements, with a focus on addressing the shortage of teachers in both boys’ and girls’ schools.
Minister Tarakai emphasized the urgency of the situation, instructing department officials to submit details of teachers who are on long or extraordinary leaves, including those working abroad or on deputation in other departments.
These leaves and deputations are to be canceled immediately to ensure that the education system functions effectively.
Tarakai ruled out any compromise on education, stressing that teaching is the teachers’ primary responsibility, and they should not engage in any other work.
He also directed the authorities to ensure that teachers currently posted in administrative roles at the secretariat, directorate, or district offices return to their original teaching posts. A report on this matter is to be submitted within one week.
Regarding the financial aspects of the recruitment, the minister clarified that the 17,000 teachers will be recruited for existing posts, meaning no additional burden will be placed on the provincial budget.
However, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) will be obtained from the Finance Department to proceed with the recruitment process.
