Sargodha: Khawaja Yasir Qayyum, President of the Sargodha Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), emphasized on Tuesday the importance of starting the sugar crushing process on time this year to safeguard the interests of farmers, mill owners, and consumers.

In a conversation with APP, he mentioned that the Pakistani government and relevant institutions are making significant efforts to ensure that there are no delays in the operation of sugar mills.

This timely action will allow farmers to receive fair compensation and ensure a smooth supply of sugar nationwide.

The government has set the support price for sugarcane at Rs 475 per maund to fairly compensate farmers for their harvest. He noted that all sugar mills have been instructed to activate their boilers by November 1, with the goal of becoming operational by November 15.

Khawaja Yasir Qayyum also announced the establishment of a special helpline and district monitoring committees to address farmers’ complaints promptly, aiming to resolve any issues growers may face.

He called on all stakeholders to work closely with the government to ensure the timely completion of the sugarcane crushing process.
