Lahore: Despite concerted government efforts to combat pollution, the ongoing smog has dulled the beauty of Lahore, known as the ‘City of Gardens,’ with the Air Quality Index (AQI) surpassing 400, signaling a severe health hazard.

For the first time this season, Lahore’s smog has reached critical levels, with the AQI hitting 426 in the morning, even though traffic levels were relatively low.

Gulberg, usually a cleaner area, recorded the highest AQI at a staggering 700, followed by Bedian Road at 690 and Barki Road at 673, with Shimla Hill recording 615.

With an average AQI of 426, Lahore has become the most polluted city in the world, according to current data. Even by afternoon, the AQI remained above 200 in several parts of the city, posing serious health risks.

Experts warn that an AQI above 150 is hazardous to health, while levels above 200 require halting activities like jogging or fast walking.

If AQI exceeds 300, it is advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and levels above 400 signify a health emergency, with even healthy individuals at risk of respiratory and cardiac problems.
