Pakistan Records 37 Polio Cases in 2024

Islamabad: Pakistan is witnessing a troubling surge in polio cases, with four new infections reported from Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad.
These latest cases raise the total number of polio infections in the country this year to 37. The NIH confirmed that three children from Balochistan and one from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have contracted poliovirus type 1.
Among the affected children in Balochistan are a girl from Pishin and one child each from Chaman and Nushki. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a girl from Laki Marwat has also tested positive for the virus.
In 2024, Balochistan recorded the highest number of cases with 20, followed by Sindh with 10, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 5, and one each in Punjab and Islamabad. Health authorities are on high alert as concerns grow over vaccination coverage and public health safety amid the ongoing spread of the virus.
