Islamabad: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) have reached an agreement on judicial reforms as part of the proposed constitutional amendments.

The consensus was achieved during a meeting of the parties’ leadership at Jati Umra. Key leaders from the PML-N, PPP, and JUI engaged in discussions over the proposed amendments. Following the meeting, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated, “There is a consensus on judicial reforms. I will also engage with PTI on the matter.”

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari confirmed that the three parties had agreed on the judicial reforms. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar remarked that political parties were committed to improving the welfare of the people.

According to sources, although the initial talks did not yield agreement on the draft for constitutional courts, a second round of discussions followed.

PML-N’s concerns remained unresolved, but JUI suggested incorporating five judges into the constitutional bench, while PML-N proposed appointing judges through a relevant committee. Fazl noted that PPP agreed to the formation of the constitutional bench.

Earlier, a special committee met in Islamabad and consolidated the draft proposals from four political parties.

PPP MNA Syed Khursheed Shah confirmed that the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) had also submitted their drafts to the committee.

Shah revealed that PTI’s chief whip Amir Dogar requested the postponement of the meeting, as PTI had convened its own session to review the proposed amendments. In response, the special committee postponed its session for one day.

After hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, traveled to Lahore to attend a dinner hosted by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra.
