Lahore: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore handed over a cheque of Rs 36.8 million to the Punjab government as part of a corruption recovery linked to former Punjab chief minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi and others involved in kickbacks on construction contracts.
NAB Deputy Chairman Sohail Nasir presented the cheque to Additional Secretary Finance Abdus Samad in the presence of NAB Lahore Director General Amjad Majeed Aulakh, according to a spokesperson on Wednesday. The recovery is part of an ongoing investigation into corruption in public contracts.
Additionally, NAB Lahore retrieved Rs 17.2 million through a plea bargain with former chief financial officer Ikram Naveed. Sohail Nasir emphasized that recovering national wealth remains the bureau’s top priority, with all actions taken in the public interest. Under DG Amjad Majeed Aulakh, NAB Lahore has recovered billions of rupees in 2024 alone.
In line with the chairman’s vision for transparency and accountability, NAB Lahore has established an Accountability Facilitation Cell (AFC) to engage parliamentarians, the business community, and the bureaucracy. Regular public hearings have also been initiated, enhancing public trust in the institution.
