Life in Kurram Badly Disrupts Due to Roads Closure for Nine Days

Peshawar: In the wake of armed skirmishes between rival tribes that started over the ownership of a piece of land in Kurram district, the main Parachinar-Thall Road remained closed for the ninth consecutive day, causing severe disruption in daily life.

A shortage of edibles, petroleum, and medicines has further added to the miseries of locals.

The main road closure has aggravated the situation as locals, including those going abroad or to big city hospitals, and Public Service Commission candidates, remain stranded, facing financial losses and career jeopardy.

The district also suffers from a shortage of food, fuel, and medicines. Though educational institutions have reopened, many students and staff are unable to reach their destinations due to fuel shortages.

Government employees are similarly confined to the district, lacking transportation to reach other offices.

Local farmers are facing huge financial losses as they cannot transport their produce to main markets, leading to fruits and vegetables being sold at extremely low prices in the district.

Police report that armed clashes between rival tribes have led to the closure of the Parachinar-Peshawar Road and other routes, with Parachinar’s roads and those leading to the Pak-Afghan border closed for nine days, including the main Kharlachi Border.
