786,000 Kids To Receive Polio Vaccines In Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: The 7th anti-polio campaign commenced in Rawalpindi today, with the aim of vaccinating 786,000 children. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engr. Amir Khattak inaugurated the campaign by administering polio vaccines to children.

To achieve this goal, 245 Union Council Medical Officers (UCMOs) and 870 area in-charges have been appointed across the district. A total of 3,675 mobile teams, 330 fixed points, and 163 transit points have been established to ensure smooth operations.

This five-day campaign will target children under five years of age in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Faisalabad, while a seven-day campaign will run in twelve other districts of Punjab. Overall, 13.9 million children across these districts will receive the polio vaccine, including those in Chakwal, Attock, Okara, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Rajanpur.

On the first day, 160,000 children in Rawalpindi district were successfully vaccinated.

Commissioner Amir Khattak emphasized that the districts have been selected based on the prevalence of polio cases, with polio eradication being a top government priority. He mentioned that a revised micro-plan has been implemented to enhance the campaign’s effectiveness. Additionally, special monitoring teams have been formed to ensure the campaign’s quality.

Amir urged parents to cooperate with polio workers, emphasizing the importance of securing their children’s health.
