United State: Kamala Harris is running a historic campaign to become the first Black and South Asian woman president of the United States.
However, she has deliberately avoided focusing on her race and gender in her speeches and public appearances. Instead, Harris is concentrating on broader issues like the cost of living, which she believes are more relevant to voters.
Despite provocations from her opponents, particularly Donald Trump, she has chosen not to engage in discussions about her racial identity or gender, deflecting such questions with humor or by dismissing them altogether.
Harris’s strategy seems to be influenced by lessons from past campaigns, such as Hillary Clinton’s 2016 bid, where emphasizing the possibility of a first female president did not lead to victory. Additionally, Harris’s reserved approach helps her avoid being narrowly defined by race or gender, allowing her to appeal to a wider range of voters.
This careful positioning might also be an effort to prevent her opponents from successfully using these aspects against her in the campaign. Instead of highlighting her historic candidacy, Harris is focusing on issues that impact all Americans, aiming to unite rather than divide the electorate based on identity.
