Lahore Receives Scattered Rains, More Predicted
News Desk
Lahore: Scattered rains swept through the Lahore city on Saturday, with the Meteorological Department forecasting cloudy weather and more rain over the next 24 hours.
Weather officials warned that torrential rains could trigger flash flooding in local nullahs, streams, and hill torrents in several areas, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Koh-e-Sulaiman, Harnai, Sabi, Jhal Magsi, Kohlu, Nasirabad, Jafarabad, Zhob, Bolan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbella, Awaran, Dadu, Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, and Swabi. Northeast Punjab and Kashmir are also at risk on Sunday, while heavy downpours could cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lower Sindh, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar.
The officials further cautioned that landslides could result in road closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir during this wet spell.
The weather department noted that a low-pressure system in the lower tropospheric levels was present over southeast #Sindh, with strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrating the southern and central parts of the country.
A westerly wave is also affecting the central and southern regions.
Rain, wind, and thundershowers are expected in Sindh, northeast and southern Punjab, eastern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, and Kashmir. Heavy rainfall may also occur in Sindh, northeast Punjab, and eastern Balochistan during this period.
Rainfall was recorded in several cities across the country. Saturday’s highest temperature was recorded in Nokkundi, where the mercury soared to 47°C, while Lahore saw a maximum of 32.3°C and a minimum of 23.5°C.
