Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), and other relevant agencies to stay on high alert in response to the potential severe flooding along the Chenab River and urban flooding caused by heavy rains in Punjab.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister is personally monitoring the anticipated heavy monsoon spell, which is expected to last until August 25.
He has directed the NDMA, PDMAs, rescue and relief agencies, civil defense units, and district administrations to be prepared to protect residents in the Chenab River catchment area and cities at risk of flooding due to the heavy rains.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for readiness in evacuation and rescue operations, and for ensuring that adequate supplies of water, medicines, tents, and other relief items are available for any emergency situation.
He also instructed relevant agencies to keep the public informed about potential flooding in vulnerable areas and to implement precautionary measures to prevent floods around canals, nullahs, and rivers. Additionally, he urged citizens to use the NDMA’s Disaster Alert application to stay updated on the situation.
