Global IT Outage Affects Microsoft Users in Pakistan: PTA

News Desk

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed on Friday that a global IT outage, triggered by a faulty update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, has also impacted Microsoft users in Pakistan.

The update, which caused widespread disruptions around the world, affected various sectors including aviation, broadcasting, banking, and healthcare.

In Pakistan, the faulty update led to Microsoft users experiencing recovery boot loops on their PCs and servers, preventing normal startup.

Additionally, some internet services were disrupted.

The PTA’s statement noted that the issue had been identified, isolated, and resolved according to CrowdStrike’s website.

Microsoft users in Pakistan are advised to update their software through the support portal to restore full functionality.

CrowdStrike’s update to a security product was identified as the source of the global outage, impacting systems running Microsoft’s Windows Operating System.

Microsoft has since reported that the problem has been resolved.

The outage has had a significant impact worldwide, with banks and financial institutions from Australia to Germany reporting disruptions, and traders highlighting difficulties with executing transactions.

In the UK, medical booking systems and major news broadcaster Sky News faced outages, while Manchester United announced a postponement of a ticket release.

The extent of the disruption led one trader to describe the situation as “the mother of all global market outages.”
