Heatwave Likely to Grip Karachi, Sukkur from Today

Karachi/ Sukkur: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast continuity of heatwave conditions over most of the Sindh province including Karachi and Sukkur division.
According to an alert from the Heatwave Early Warning Center of PMD, coastal areas may experience a heatwave, with temperatures expected to rise above 40°C. The alert indicates that Karachi divisions, along with Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal districts, may experience heatwave conditions from tomorrow until June 1st.
Daytime maximum temperatures are forecasted to reach 40-42°C in Karachi and 42-44°C in Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal during this period.
Severe weather conditions are expected to persist until June 1st, 2024, in many parts of Sindh, where areas are already experiencing temperatures 6-8°C above normal in districts like Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, and Shaheed Benazirabad, and 5-7°C above normal in districts such as Sanghar, Hyderabad, Mitiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Tharparker, and Badin.
In Jacobabad, the highest temperature recorded was 52°C, while temperatures soared to 51°C in Dadu, Larkana, and Mohenjodaro, 50°C in Sukkur, Nawabshah, and Khairpur, 49°C in Rohri and Padidan, 48°C in Sakrand, 46°C in Hyderabad, and 45°C in Mithi.
Despite gusty winds and windstorms providing some relief to residents of coastal areas like Karachi, Badin, and Thatta, temperatures still rose to 38°C in Karachi and 36°C in Thatta, with forecasts indicating further increases to 40-42°C on Wednesday and 41-43°C on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Karachi may rise to 30°C, gradually decreasing humidity levels to around 30% in the evening, as highlighted in the heatwave alert from the Heatwave Early Warning Center.
The Local Pakistan Meteorological Office has predicted that heatwave conditions will persist over most areas of the Sukkur division, with dust-raising and gusty winds expected in the next 12 hours. Noon temperatures recorded in three districts of the Sukkur division were: Sukkur 49.2°C, Khairpur 50°C, and Ghotki district 49.5°C.
