Mirpur Goes in Grip of Rising Mercury, Paralyzing Life

Mirpur: Experiencing temperatures soaring to at least 42 degrees Celsius, daily life in the lake district of Mirpur, Azad Jammu Kashmir, faced partial disruption on Thursday.

According to local hospital sources, some individuals, predominantly children, were transferred to both local private and government hospitals due to symptoms of diarrhea and gastroenteritis triggered by the intense heatwave.

Reportedly, over the past week, around two dozen children suffering from diarrhea and gastroenteritis were admitted to hospitals, with some discharged after receiving necessary medical care.

In response to the situation, Dr Khalid Yousaf, a seasoned physician specializing in family medicine at Jinnah Hospital Mirpur, advised the public to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours of the scorching heat, particularly in the afternoon.

He recommended using protective measures such as wearing caps, keeping a wet cloth on the head, or carrying an umbrella when venturing out.

Dr Khalid also emphasized the importance of staying hydrated by regularly consuming clean, hygienic fluids to prevent dehydration, especially during the ongoing hot weather spell.
