Pakistan Launches GOLF-III for Glacial Protection

Islamabad: Romina Khurshid Alam, the PM’s Coordinator on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, announced on Wednesday that the Ministry will launch the GOLF-III project to protect Pakistan’s glacial water resources.
During a meeting with Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, both parties agreed that the NDMA and the Ministry of Climate Change will collaborate on this initiative.
They emphasized the need for close cooperation to address heat waves, natural disasters, and the anticipated floods in the country. Additionally, a joint strategy will be formulated to protect vulnerable wildlife species during the upcoming flood season.
The Chairman NDMA and the PM’s Coordinator also discussed preparations for the upcoming COP29. They agreed to work closely on reports, documentaries, and recommendations for the United Nations global summit, which will take place in Baku at the end of the year.
Furthermore, the PM’s Coordinator acknowledged the highest commendation from the COP29 President and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Mukhtar Babayev, regarding Pakistan’s cooperation, commitment, and technical support for COP29.
Lastly, the PM’s Coordinator agreed with the Chairman NDMA’s proposal to establish a joint project bank between the NDMA and the Ministry of Climate Change. This initiative aims to support long-term sustainable development projects and prevent the duplication of efforts.
