Abbottabad: The Hazara division is facing a dire situation due to three days of relentless torrential rain, resulting in widespread chaos and destruction.

Landslides have severed numerous road connections, including the critical Karakoram Highway in Kohistan, while flash floods have engulfed residential areas in Abbottabad.

The upper Hazara division, encompassing areas like Abbottabad city, Galyat, Kaghan, Naran, Kohistan, Battagram, and Thandiani, has been particularly hard-hit, with landslides blocking roads and flash floods breaching defenses and causing extensive damage to homes.

The Karakoram Highway, a lifeline for transportation, has been blocked at multiple points by flash floods, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded. Moreover, the heavy rain and thunderstorms have damaged electricity transmission lines and telecommunication systems, exacerbating the crisis.

Abbottabad city is grappling with overwhelmed sewerage systems, resulting in streets and homes being inundated with filth carried by flash floods. Major roads like KKH, Main Murree Road, Kakul Road, Mandian, Supply Bazaar, and Link Road Abbottabad have become virtual cesspools.

In addition to Abbottabad, areas like Galyat, Thandiani, Mansehra, Battagram, and the Kaghan Valley have suffered significant infrastructure damage, with thoroughfares and connecting roads destroyed by the adverse weather conditions. Mansehra has also reported structural collapses and other incidents caused by windstorms and heavy rain.

The forecast from the meteorological department paints a grim picture, with more rain and thunderstorms expected in the next 24 hours, particularly in the upper parts of the Hazara division, which could exacerbate the flooding and landslides, further worsening the situation.
