Bid to Smuggle Gecko Leopard Lizard Foiled

Peshawar: An alleged bid to smuggle Gecko Leopard Lizard from Abbottabad to the Northern Region has been foiled, said a statement issued by the KP Wildlife Department on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Sub-divisional Wildlife officer Mansehra intercepted a Suzuki carry van at Mansehra toll plaza and during checking seized the wild species. The raiding teams also arrested two persons involved in poaching of the wild species.

The seized lizards, 15 in number, were being put in a water bucket for transportation to Northern areas from Havelian in a Suzuki carry van. The raid was conducted by Sub divisional Wildlife officer Mansehra along with Wildlife staff Mansehra at toll plaza Mansehra, Taimoor added.

A case has been registered against the suspected smugglers, residents of Abbottabad and Haripur, under the Wildlife and Biodiversity Act, 2015 and will be dealt with further accordingly.

They also confessed their involvement in international trade, added the official.
