HRCP Demands 10% Increase in Healthcare Budget

News Desk

Islamabad: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has initiated an awareness campaign to advocate for the recognition of the right to health as a fundamental entitlement enshrined in the constitution, ensuring equality for all regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, age, ability, sexual orientation, or class.

In its ‘people’s manifesto,’ the HRCP has called upon the government and stakeholders in the healthcare sector to allocate at least 10 percent of the budget, particularly within provincial budgets, to healthcare.

This allocation should focus on enhancing the capacity of the workforce and improving healthcare infrastructure.

The HRCP emphasizes a comprehensive approach to healthcare, recognizing that physical, mental, and social wellbeing are essential components of a fulfilling life.

It urges policymakers at the local, provincial, and national levels to prioritize healthcare in their decision-making processes, safeguarding it from being influenced solely by political, economic, social, or environmental factors.

Furthermore, the HRCP advocates for healthcare to be freely accessible, or at the very least affordable, to all individuals.

Special attention should be given to vulnerable groups and those residing in remote areas, ensuring they have equitable access to healthcare services.

In conclusion, the HRCP stresses the importance of promoting preventive measures, dispelling misconceptions, and cultivating a culture of wellbeing through education and widespread awareness campaigns.
