From Defeat to Victory: Zardari’s Political Journey Begins
News Desk
Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari, who has assumed the highest office of the federation, will take his oath for the second time today (Sunday) as an elected president of the people, making him the 14th president in the country’s history.
Asif Ali Zardari’s tenure marks a milestone in Pakistan’s presidential history, as he is the first president to fulfill all democratic requirements and leave office in good health.
He holds the distinction of being the first civilian president to leave the presidency with dignity and peace, a tradition upheld by his successors, Mamnoon Hussain and Arif Alvi.

Zardari’s political journey began in 1983 when he contested the district council elections in his native constituency, Nawabshah, albeit facing defeat. However, he went on to win all subsequent elections he contested.
An interesting coincidence lies in the presidential election of 2008, where he faced opposition from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Justice (retd) Saeed-ul-Zaman Siddiqui and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) candidate Mushahid Hussain Syed, whom he defeated.
In his recent election, notable figures from the PML-N, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, not only voted for him but also actively participated in his election campaign.
